Hey gang! It's been a while, but don't worry, I'm still alive.
I've been playing around with the hornet missiles on my Reaver recently and I picked up thermal optics to help pick out infantry. Turns out, when you have the aim key (right click by default) pressed and fire a missile you can guide it, but when you release your aim key, the missile flies straight. The same goes for firing it without the aim key, then pressing it to switch into "dumbfire mode." Once you switch back to whatever you first fired the missile with, (either aim key or no aim key) you can guide the missile again.
This works with all optics, even if you don't have any equipped. I've been using this for strafing tanks, as I can guide the missile until I get within ~200m, and if it hasn't hit yet, I'll switch to dumbfire and afterburn straight ahead to get to cover, turn around, and repeat.
This could also allow you to fire two missiles at two different targets simultaneously. (Potential idea for Youngblood's new show.)
If you guys have any cool hornet strategies, let me know. I'd love to try them out.
Edit: You can also use the cockpit freelook (mouse wheel held in by default) to activate dumbfire mode.
